Nancy E. Gordon

Nancy E. Gordon is licensed to practice law in North Carolina.  Ms. Gordon has been in the private practice of law in Durham since 1983.  Her practice is limited to the practice of matrimonial and family law.

 Ms. Gordon graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in 1976 and received her J.D. in 1979 from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio.  After being admitted to the Michigan State Bar in 1979, she worked for Touche Ross & Co. in Detroit, Michigan.  In 1981, Ms. Gordon chose to make Durham, North Carolina, her home.  She was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar in 1982.

 Throughout her years in the Triangle area, Ms. Gordon has lent much of her time and expertise to the local and state bar associations.  Besides being a past-President of both the Durham County Young Lawyer’s Division and the Durham County/Fourteenth Judicial District Bar Association, she has chaired and participated in several local and state Bar Association task forces and committees.  A current member of the North Carolina Bar Association Family Law Section Council, Ms. Gordon has served two terms as editor for The Family Forum, the Section’s newsletter, is a past chair of the Long-Range Planning Committee and a member of the Section CLE Committee.  A frequent course planner and presenter for a variety of seminars on matrimonial law, her most recent presentations include “Equitable Distribution in a Nutshell,” “Ethics & Disclosure in Matrimonial Cases,” and “Post-separation Support─Strategies & Traps.”  Ms. Gordon is an occasional speaker at family law seminar classes at Duke University Law School and at the North Carolina Central University Law School.

 In 1991, Ms. Gordon became the first board-certified family law specialist in Durham County, North Carolina, and in 1996 she became a fellow with the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML).  She is past president of the North Carolina Chapter of AAML.  In addition to her experience in trial work, Ms. Gordon has completed training in family law mediation and is an AAML-certified matrimonial arbitrator.
