Carlyn
Poole is licensed to practice law in North Carolina. Ms. Poole was born in Texas and received her B.A. and M.A. degrees in English from Texas Technological University.
She did additional graduate work at Vanderbilt University and received her J.D. degree with honors from the
University of North Carolina in 1979, where she was a member of Order of the Coif and managing editor of the North
Carolina Law Review.
Ms.
Poole's family law practice includes trial and appellate work as well as family law mediation. She has been active
in family law matters in the North Carolina Bar Association, serving as a member of the Family Law Council, editor
and contributor to the Family Forum, chair of the Family Law Section, chair of a legislative drafting
committee, continuing legal education committee member, and as a regular speaker and course planner for continuing
legal education programs. She has served the North Carolina State Bar as vice chair of the Continuing Legal
Education Committee, chair of the North Carolina Conference of Bar Presidents, and member of the Family Law
Specialization Committee. She is a past member of the North Carolina Child Support Council and has taught as
an adjunct instructor in family law at the University of North Carolina School of Law.
Ms.
Poole's other contributions to the bar include serving the Wake County Bar Association as president and chair of the
long range planning and professionalism committees. She has been a member of the Board of Governors of the
North Carolina Bar Association, the Board of East Central Community Legal Services, and was a vice-president of the
North Carolina Bar Association, chairing a task force on solo and small firm practice.

Poole is listed in the family law section of Best Lawyers in America, is a fellow of the American Academy of
Matrimonial Lawyers, and is certified as a Family Law Specialist and as a Family Financial Mediator.
