Robert
Riddle is licensed to practice law in North Carolina. Mr. Riddle was born in Hagerstown, Maryland. He has practiced law in Asheville, North Carolina, since 1960.
He holds the Bachelor of Science Degree from Wake Forest University in 1957 and a J.D. Degree from Wake Forest Law
School in 1958. He also holds a Master of Public Administration Degree from Western Carolina University
awarded in 1984. He has practiced in the Courts of Asheville and Western North Carolina since his admission to
the Bar in 1958. He has been listed in "The Best Lawyers In America since 1983 under the Domestic
Relations Category.
Mr.
Riddle's practice is predominately family law with emphasis on Equitable Distribution. He is a North Carolina
Board Certified Family Law Specialist and a member of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of
Matrimonial Lawyers. He served as Vice Chair of North Carolina Board of Legal Specialization. He has
served as Chairman of the Family Law Section of of the North Carolina Bar Association in 1984 and as a Trustee of
the Board of Governors of the North Carolina Bar Association from 1990 till 1993. He served as President of
the Buncombe County Bar Association in 1979/80 and as an officer of the twenty-eight Judicial District Bar. He
is a member of and served as a trustee of The North Carolina Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr.
Riddle has participated in the continuing education programs of the North Carolina Bar Foundation, North Carolina
Trial Lawyers Association, and the Wake Forest University School of Law. He has prepared and presented
manuscripts on Custody, Divorce, Equitable Distribution, QDRO's, Separation Agreements and other family law
topics. He has authorized articles for The Campbell Observer, and various other professional
publications. Published topics include An Analysis of Repressed Memory; Interim Distribution In Equitable
Distribution Cases; The New Role of Fault in Alimony; and Creative Use of Roll-Overs in Family Law Settlements.
Mr.
Riddle is certified as an arbitrator by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and as a Superior Court Mediator
by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission.
Mr.
Riddle has appeared in District and Superior trial courts throughout Western North Carolina and has appeared before
the North Carolina Court of Appeals and Supreme Court as well as Federal District Court and the Fourth District
Federal Court of Appeals.
