Robin
J. Stinson is licensed to practice law in North Carolina. Ms. Stinson is a
native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
She was admitted to practice in North Carolina in 1984, after
receiving her bachelor's degree in History and Political Science in 1981
from Duke University (cum laude) and her J.D. degree from the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Law in 1984.
Ms. Stinson is a partner with the law firm of Bell, Davis & Pitt,
P.A. where she has been a principal since 1999.
She practices primarily in Forsyth County and central and western
North Carolina and she currently concentrates her practice in the area of
equitable distribution, alimony, and child custody.
Ms.
Stinson's practice is limited to family law. In 1991, she was certified by
the North Carolina State Bar as a specialist in Family Law. She has been a
member of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial
Lawyers since July 2001 and is currently President Elect. Ms.
Stinson has served in numerous capacities with the North Carolina Bar
Association, including current service as a member of its Board of Governors
and past service as chair and vice-chair of the
Association’s Family Law Section, council member, and editor of the Family
Forum, the Family Law Section’s newsletter.
Ms. Stinson is a Past-President of the 21st
Judicial District Bar/Forsyth County (N.C.) Bar Association, where she has
served as secretary, treasurer, and chairman of the local Ethics and
Grievance Committee.
Ms.
Stinson is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education programs
sponsored by the North Carolina Bar Foundation and the Wake Forest University
School of Law. She has
written and presented manuscripts on a wide range of topics including third
party and grandparent custody rights, ethics in family law, personal
jurisdiction in equitable distribution, discovery (obtaining documents and
information), third parties in equitable distribution litigation, selected
evidentiary and procedural issues in domestic cases, preparing and using
exhibits in domestic litigation, personal/professional goodwill as marital
property, trial problems in domestic litigation, civil procedure, discovery
and motion practice in family law cases, use of expert witnesses in domestic
cases, and child support, and premarital agreements and
the effect of family law in the area of estate planning.
Ms.
Stinson is certified as a superior court mediator by the North Carolina
Dispute Resolution Commission and has served as a mediator in numerous
family financial and other related maters. In addition to North Carolina,
Ms. Stinson is admitted to practice before the US District Court for Middle
District of North Carolina, the US Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals,
and the United States Supreme Court. In
her appellate practice, she has appeared before the North Carolina Court of
Appeals and the US Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
